Special Interest Groups
These groups are part of Permaculture Melbourne and are focused on specific areas of interest. Any Permaculture Melbourne member can join them.
The Plant Group
In 2000 the Heritage Fruits Group of Permaculture Melbourne took on the responsibility of managing, documenting and extending the Antique Apple Collection of over 200 varieties of apples at Petty’s Orchard, Templestowe, and in recent years the staging of the Annual Apple Tasting Open Day at the Orchard. Arrangements to transfer responsibility for this collection to a new incorporated body – the Heritage Fruits Society – commenced in 2008.
The former Heritage Fruits Group has now broadened its focus to cover all plants useful in a permaculture system and has been renamed The Plant Group.
The Plant Group has a particular interest in plants which may be uncommon in our area, but are potentially useful. The Plant Group aims to support members who grow grow permaculture plants for their own use, to document plant information, and to run workshops, field days and plant swaps.
The Bee Group
The Bee Group is a special interest group within Permaculture Melbourne. It was formed to support those interested in learning more about keeping bees and developing and promoting ethical bee keeping.

VEG Victorian Educators’ Group
The Victorian Educators’ Group is a group of Permaculture teachers who work in cooperation rather than competition. We share ideas and teaching strategies, course content, philosophy and sometimes projects.
An ongoing project of VEG is the updating of ” A Syllabus for Permaculture Design in Cool Temperate South Eastern Australia.” This is a resource to help Permaculture Educators plan Permaculture Design Courses. It covers the whole PDC curriculum as required by The Permaculture Institute and includes additional material relevant to our local bio-region. Educators interested in using this resource are invited to contact us.
